NZI has emerged the winner of three out of 11 categories in this year’s New Zealand Insurance Industry Awards, including Intermediated Insurer of the Year for the third year running.
Now IAG NZ’s Chief Risk Officer, Karl Armstrong was named Insurance Leader of the Year in recognition of his tenure as Executive General Manager of NZI from August 2008 to September this year. Speaking after accepting his award, Karl said he was delighted and humbled by the recognition from his peers and for whom he has huge respect.
“I am truly honoured to be recognised as a leader within this amazing industry” he said. “I love the people in it, the challenges it presents, the variety, and of course making a different to our customers and our people.”
Two of the three finalists for the Emerging Young Professional of the Year category were from NZI, June Kuan, a Commercial Pricing and Portfolio Analyst, and Henry Wallace, a Marine Underwriter.
June was named the eventual winner of the category, thanks to a glowing nomination in which she was described as “an absolute asset to her team”.
NZI continued its reign Intermediated Insurance Company of the Year for the third year running. Judges picked NZI over fellow finalists AIG and Vero for the impressive range of initiatives the business had worked to implement in the last year. These included DriveSmart, a heavy driver vehicle behaviour and management program through which NZI successfully reduced the frequency and number of claims from its client market, and the Risk Solutions program, which aims to help business customers take preventative measures to minimize risk.
NZI was also praised for its efforts to strengthen relationships between brokers and their corporate clients to produce better results.
The Insurance Industry of the Year awards are held annually by Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) to honour the highest standards of excellence, professionalism and performance of individuals and organisations in the industry.
IAG is a proud sponsor of the Emerging Young Professional category. In presenting this award to June, IAG Chief Executive Office Jacki Johnson said the annual event provided a platform to celebrate the wonderful work and commitment of those within the insurance sector. Sponsoring of the Emerging Young Professional category was fitting as IAG is passionate about the support and development opportunities provided to its people, Jacki said.
