IAG, which trades under NZI, AMI and State Insurance, has reopened its books to take on new business in parts of Wellington and Marlborough following the Seddon quakes on 21 July. New policies can now be written for people living in Tasman, Nelson, Kaikoura, Kapiti Coast, South Wairapa, Carterton and Masterson.
Restrictions still apply in the following regions:
- Marlborough District
- Wellington City
- Porirua City
- Hutt City (Lower Hutt)
- Upper Hutt City.
It is standard practice within the insurance industry following an incident such as the Seddon earthquake for insurers to suspend the taking on of new business for a period in order to focus on existing customers’ claims and better understand the risk posed by aftershocks.
