The Canterbury earthquakes continue to prove a harsh test of New Zealanders’ faith in the insurance industry as a whole. In an editorial in the 13 June 2013 edition of South Island’s largest daily newspaper, The Press, the sector is acknowledged for its progress towards restoring public confidence by engaging more clearly with customers and setting realistic goals for when repair programmes will be complete.
IAG welcomes this acknowledgment, which reflects the considerable efforts of many of our people in Canterbury, as well as those supporting the recovery in other parts of the country. We also understand the cautionary tone of the article and agree with the conclusion that, “…there is plainly still a mountain of work to be done. That work will be far from straightforward, and no doubt difficulties will continue to arise.”
In our latest Canterbury Recovery newsletter, we outline how progress is being made and that we are still on track to reach our target of completing our reinstatement programme by the end of 2015.
